Today, Thursday 23th October at 17.00h the lecture ´Affordability in Africa´ will take place, given by Peter Rich, internationally acclaimed architect born in Johannesburg, South Africa, who has recently joined the UCJC School of Architecture.
Practicing as architect and professor of Architecture at the University of Witwatersrand and Johannesburg for 30 years, he developed a contemporary architectural vocabulary in his research. Controversial, a fusion of modernist influences (particularly Loos, RM Schindler and Guedes) and spatial models derived from vernacular tribal languages
Rich soon began involving himself in tribal communities, acting as an architect, facilitator or activist, believing that the common people needed his services the most.
His work, inspiring, never-ending and creative, that spans more than three decades has been recognized on national level, counting 16 awards of distinction and the Gold Medal of the South African Institute of Architects, and international, most recently having won the prestigious World Building of the Year in Barcelona, 2009.
The conference will be part of the Postgraduate Course ¨Affordable Habitat¨, and the mastertrack Máster de Eficiencia Energética Y Arquitectura Bioclimática (MEEYAB) of the UCJC School of Architecture.
